FORUM SECRETARIAT INTRODUCES WEBQ

The Private Sector Development Unit of the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat is introducing WebQ, a computer software that creates an accurate and detailed picture of a company’s core business skills and capabilities along with an overview of the company’s current business situation.

This product is a web based version of the Q100 software which the Unit has been promoting in its Business Development training workshops and assessments of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) throughout the Forum Islands Countries in 2007.

The WebQ offers users the option to use either the:

(1) The business ready assessment for start-up companies to make sure they have all the right ingredients for starting a new business, or

(2) The SME toolkit assessment for existing businesses to identify performance gaps and constraints which prevent them from competing effectively. This option provides links to international resources and material that help them develop strategies for growth.

“There is no right or wrong answers and this is an assessment rather than a test. It's about your skills and abilities and the results will show which capabilities and skills you are confident and capable in and which you will need to address if you are serious about taking your business forward,” says Feleti Teo, the Forum Secretariat’s Acting Secretary General.

“By answering honestly you will have a very accurate picture. The diagnostic toolkit assesses business performance picking out the weaknesses and the strengths and sheds light on areas of opportunities and threats,” says Mr Teo

The toolkit will help:
1. Build confidence in what you are doing well and develop strategies to do even better
2. Drive better performance in your business and manage risks
3. Measure the effect of changes you make on your business performance over time
4. Increase your ability to raise capital, attract investors, make successful applications for funds
5. Derive measurable results as a basis for celebration or rewards
6. Compare your performance by benchmarking to similar businesses.

Upon the completion of the diagnostic the business will receive a summary report. The results will give an overview of where the business is now and establishes what actions would be most useful for the individual business situation.

The goal of this project is to provide the Small Medium Enterprises (SME) support organizations with the knowledge and some tools to help build the business community. A broader purpose is the development of Business capability profile across the Pacific so that the Business Capability weaknesses by country and the whole region can be identified for future capability building programs.
