SOLOMON ISLANDS GOVERNMENT AND RAMSI AGREE TO FURTHER DISCUSS PARTNERSHIP FRAMEWORK
The one-day meeting of the Enhanced Consultative Mechanism between the Solomon Islands Government, the Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands (RAMSI) and the Pacific Islands Forum has agreed to discuss further the proposed Partnership Framework.
The aim of the proposed Partnership Framework is to provide formal direction and articulation of the Solomon Islands Government-RAMSI partnership for the development of Solomon Islands.
At the last Forum Ministerial Standing Committee Meeting in February this year, Ministers underlined the importance of consultation at all levels between the Solomon Islands Government and RAMSI and thus endorsed the work to develop the proposed Partnership Framework.
“It was a productive meeting and it could only enhance the partnership between the Solomon Islands, RAMSI and the Forum. There is a genuine commitment by the parties in this partnership to continue to build on their achievements,” says David Poihega, the Secretary to the Prime Minister of Niue who chaired the ECM meeting today.
“There is agreement between Solomon Islands Government and RAMSI in a number of areas and they further agreed that there is need for consultations on the other areas to progress the Partnership Framework.”
“Today’s meeting has proposed a draft outcome to be considered by the Forum Ministerial Standing Committee that includes an update on the implementation of the 2007 RAMSI Review Task Force Report and a process to move forward the Partnership Framework. The Forum Ministerial Standing Committee is scheduled to meet in Honiara this Thursday,” says Mr Poihega.
The ECM meeting was attended by senior officials of Solomon Islands and Australian Governments, RAMSI and Forum representatives from Niue and Papua New Guinea, and the Forum Secretariat.
