HEADS OF CROP MEET IN SOLOMON ISLANDS

The chief executive officers of regional organizations who are members of the Council of Regional Organisations in the Pacific (CROP) will meet in Honiara, Solomon Islands 11 – 12 June to discuss a number of important issues in the region which have emerged through discussions of their various governing councils.

The CROP has become the highest technical advisory committee to member countries in progressing regional cooperation and integration as outlined in the Pacific Plan. While the Secretary General of the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat is the standing Chair of CROP, their annual meetings are hosted on a rotational basis by each of the regional organizations.

CROP comprises of the Fiji School of Medicine (FSchM), the Pacific Islands Forum Fisheries Agency(FFA), Pacific Islands Development Programme (PIDP), Secretariat for the Pacific Community (SPC), Pacific Islands Applied Geoscience Commission (SOPAC), South Pacific Board for Educational Assessment (SPBEA), Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat(PIFS), Pacific Power Association (PPA), Secretariat of the Pacific regional Environment Programme (SPREP), south-pacific.travel(formerly SPTO) and the University of the South Pacific(USP).

Issues to be discussed at the CROP Heads meeting will include priorities of each of the member organizations as directed by their governing councils and how these link with progressing the Pacific Plan and the Pacific Islands Forum Leaders’ Communiqué. Outcomes of this discussion will propose Pacific Plan priorities for 2010 to be considered by PPAC in July, and Forum Leaders’ at their meeting in August. Executives will also discuss the parameters of a practical monitoring and evaluation framework for measuring progress under the Pacific Plan.

Other issues to be discussed by CROP Executives will include preliminary findings of the review of CROP Working Groups mechanism, CROP harmonized remuneration issues, and the high level conferences between the Forum and international partners such as Japan and France in 2009.

The CROP meeting is chaired by the Secretary General of the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat, Tuiloma Neroni Slade and is hosted by the Forum Fisheries Agency, which is based in Honiara.
