21st November 97/06 PACIFIC ISLANDS TRADE AND INVESTMENT COMMISSION SYDNEY APPOINTS SPECIAL PROJECTS OFFICER PACIFIC ISLANDS TRADE AND INVESTMENT COMMISSION SYDNEY APPOINTS SPECIAL PROJECTS OFFICER The coordination of activities in support of private sector including investment development in Pacific Island Countries (PICs) from Australia and within the region is expected to be boosted with appointment of a Special Projects Officer at the Pacific Islands Trade and Investment Commission (PITIC) based in Sydney. He is Mr Patrick Martin who was recently appointed to the position. On his appointment, Mr Martin said: "My new role is multi-dimensional and will involve working directly with governments and industry in the region to facilitate and promote private sector growth, coordinating PITIC business development projects which target Small Island States and of course, liaising with a network of strategic partners in Australia and the region He added, "I am looking forward to working closely with the team in Sydney as well as the Forum Secretariat plus our partner agencies in Australia and the region." PITIC Sydney is one of four trade offices of the Suva-based Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat. Through a series of trade, export, tourism and investment development initiatives, PITIC works closely with a network of government, private sector agencies and NGOs to contribute to the economic growth of 14 PICs who are members of the PIF. Mr Martin has a diverse set of skills and experience with over a decade of banking and financial management experience including roles in treasury and structured products with leading global financial institutions in the Asia- Pacific region. He is already familiar with the region through his recent involvement in managing the implementation of donor funded development projects in East Timor, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands and Tonga specializing in institutional strengthening, microfinance and capacity building.
