Good Governance

Key governance priorities in the Pacific include bolstering key governance and accountability institutions to enhance the transparency of political and economic processes, strengthening oversight mechanisms to ensure the effective management of the region's natural, human and financial resources and protecting fundamental human rights.

The strategic objective for the good governance work programme of the Forum Secretariat is “improved transparency, accountability, equity and efficiency in the management and use of resources in the Pacific”.

Good governance is a prerequisite for sustainable development and economic growth, and as outlined in their Vision, and consistent with priority initiatives in the Pacific Plan, Forum Leaders:

"seek a Pacific region that is respected for the quality of its governance, the sustainable management of its resources, the full observance of democratic values and for its defence and promotion of human rights"
